Jackie: The images most powerful woman in the world – movie review – MIRROR ONLINE

Jacqueline Kennedy is for Natalie Portman in the role of your life, recently, she was nominated for the Oscar. However, Portman does not see Kennedy in a similar way. In ordinary film portraits this circumstance would be a small hurdle that would have to take the Film and the audience together, and then the friction delve into the life story of the portrayed Person.

“Jackie” will be cleared this hurdle will never be out of the way, instead, the filmmakers added a lot of other hurdles. Flashbacks interrupt the narrative flow, the music, moments of Tension overemphasized, and quotes as of the movie, finally, his most elaborate staging, and the state funeral of John F. Kennedy, scatters Director Pablo Larraín archive footage of the actual funeral procession in between by Washington.

brittleness, tells of the occupation, is made in the course of the film, but again and again, here is a strategy. No one should lose here in the pictures, from distrust to simple Immersion, but also out of necessity: For complex arguments, the Film that followed, you need concentration. In the end, you could be hardly convinced of his evidence: Our presence, in politics, the media, and celebrity culture inseparable from each other, is decisive of Jacqueline Kennedy influenced.

It starts with an Interview. Two weeks after the assassination of JFK by a Reporter (Billy Crudup) travels to the “Life Magazine” to the country-seat of the Kennedys in Hyannis Port to guide the first interview with the young widow. Her Outfit is different, instead of the costume in bright colors she now wears pants and a cream white sweater, and she smokes. “I don’t smoke,” she says, but the Reporter and looks him firmly in the eyes. Whatever he writes in the following hours in his Notepad, this is what she wants to read and her late husband in the magazine.

one and a Half years earlier, has met the Nation yet another Jackie. In a television Special, the watch 80 million viewers, the young First Lady by the White house and explains how she wants to make with antique artwork and furniture, the history of the President’s home and its previous inhabitants to be more present. But she is not sure of, is constantly seeking eye contact with her assistant Nancy (Greta Gerwig). Finally, as the President (Caspar Phillipson) for a few moments added, it will appear to be relieved to have someone on your side who knows how to fill an image.

It is one of the few moments in which John F. Kennedy. His murder, the Film does not avoid, it is so shocking and brutal, as you could be. Nevertheless, JFK is a marginal figure and it’s not because the Film receives its existence from it, to show Jackie the far less frequently portrayed woman at his side, but because he takes a much more radical perspective: that JFK is, in fact, a historical figure on the periphery, which is only become by the use of his wife and later widow of the icon, as he is remembered even 50 years after his death.

A camera glance at a plaque with the data of the short tenure of Kennedy suggests this perspective: 20. January 1961 to 22. November 1963. Then it speaks his brother Bobby (Peter Sarsgaard), at that time attorney-General, said: “What we would have been able to achieve anything? Civil rights, peace…” Instead, there is JFK’s successor, Lyndon B. Johnson, signs the Civil Rights Act that racial segregation is lifted, during Kennedy’s term of office it creates, especially the failed Bay of pigs Invasion in the history books. “We are only the beautiful people? That is all we are?”, asks Bobby.

Jackie, through her role as First Lady, from the outset, to Represent the set, has put this question, of course, much earlier. And has your answer already, slowly at first with the television Special, then always decisive: How the White house itself, the President couple of the best pages of the United States was supposed to embody. It should be modern, open and approachable, and thus, even when in the greatest Pomp will be given to celebrated, the citizens the feeling that their own dreams would be lived.

“Let us never forget that it was once for a brief, shining Moment, a place, Camelot said,” is a line from the Musical “Camelot”, and listened to JFK. Jackie mentioned the Song at the end of your interview with “Life” and then adds: “There will be no new Camelot.” She says it’s like the sentence that you don’t smoke: enjoy the power of Interpretation, which it can exercise in this Moment, and at the same time with the Knowledge that this power of Interpretation, with each day that she is no longer First Lady, more fades. As you can see in the excerpt from the White house, as her successor Claudia “Lady Bird” Johnson, with a new bale of Cloth, armed with power already to the refurbishment, could be your Miss greater.

It is also a struggle for power, the Jackie in the Film, with the Washington Establishment launches when it comes to the planning of the funeral of JFK. She is paralyzed by grief and violence, the witness is in the attempt to become traumatized, your husband’s blood on her pink Chanel suit she wears as a Messianic Stigma. However, as officials you advise against it, to have an open funeral procession including horses in Washington in drag, she starts to fight mercilessly, their Vision of a funeral to enforce. You know, it is the last confrontation with the state apparatus, the can you win. And you will win.

At the end she falls short, with a black veil over the face, by Washington and for the last Time the Americans and the Americans as the embodiment of their feelings, only this time not just your hope but your grief. The Pathos of these scenes is in the best sense of the sublime, because the Film and its lead actress are not afraid to make Self-assertiveness, which you can see in Jackie’s behavior, you know: As in many other scenes she is here at the front and in the centre of the image is positioned.

In the Video: The Trailer for “Jackie”

This will of course also support the main Thesis of the film – that it is Jackie a literally Central historical figure. But without an actress that can hold this view only, but also decided to back a look, these images are useless. Natalie Portman is as an actress. As Jackie, you know exactly which pictures are taken of her, and this Knowledge shines through in your presentation. Portman acts in other films, sometimes a bit impenetrable and not in the Events involved are used, this property here is perfect: it embodies Jackie and is at the same time comment on this embodiment, above all, from a purely vocal level.

In the dark, pressed voice, Jackie’s, Portman hits perfect, East coast American and British Received Pronunciation to the artificial “Mid-Atlantic”accent, which was maintained in the last thirty years and forty years of the American upper class, as well as the Film and theatre scene. The work of one’s own identity, that’s how it sounds here, had begun the well-protected debutante Jacqueline Bouvier, long before her marriage to the future President.

“Jackie”, as she puts this work in the White house and what the significance of them. She and JFK were the beautiful people, but this was so much more.
