Most only know him as Black, his 80s hit “Wonderful Life” and “Sweetest Smile” are still part of the standard repertoire of many radio stations. A car accident cost Colin Vearncombe life. He was to write on his way to England new songs.

The English musician Colin Vearncombe who as Black with “Wonderful Life” was a smash hit in the 1980s, has died following a car accident.

“Colin has never regained consciousness after a traffic accident 16 days ago again,” it said in the early hours of Tuesday in a statement on his Facebook page. He had died peacefully surrounded by his family, who had sung for him. Vearncombe leaves a wife and three sons.

The 53-year-old from Liverpool had suffered a head injury in Ireland on 10 January and has since been in intensive care in treatment. On his Facebook page just a plain message the first place had to read: “Colin Vearncombe. 05/26/1962 – 01/26/2016. You’ll never walk alone “. The saying – in German: You’ll never walk alone your way – is the anthem of the football club Liverpool FC. There will soon also be a memorial service, the burial is private.

Known Black was best known for its hit “Sweetest Smile” and “Wonderful Life”. He has published numerous albums, wrote poems and presented his own pictures from Ireland, where he lived for more than ten years. The accident was the singer when he was on the way to Cork Airport. He wanted to Edinburgh, to write songs, as the news agency PA reported.
