First Steps Awards: “Los Angeles” Wins Young Film Award – Tagesspiegel

On Monday night the First Steps Awards awarded in Berlin, for the 15th time. Five of the seven prizes were awarded to graduates of the Film Academy Ludwigsburg. But the main prize was the Munich Film student Damian John Harper with “Los Angeles” it.

Damian John Harper has won for his film “Los Angeles” the First Steps Award 2014 in the category of long-feature film. Harper, a graduate of the Munich Film School, accepted the award at the ceremony of junior rates in the musical palace at Potsdamer Platz on Monday evening from the hands of the actor Ulrich Matthes contrary. The film tells of the 17-year-old Mateo, who wants to go out of his Mexican village to LA to support the family: Mateo believes it can not survive there without becoming a gang member. The prize is worth 25,000 euros. In the category of medium-length feature film Stefan Bohuns film won over a corrupt housing officials “Music”, a production of the Vienna Film Academy

All other five prizes were awarded to graduates of the Film Academy Ludwigsburg. Maximilian Haslberger won with his documentary “philanthropy” two disabled men looking for sex, Andreas Bruns was honored for his Lux promotional film “Save your skin”.

In the short film Pascal Flörks contributed “Bear” trophy of a photo montage about his Nazi grandfather in the form of a bear. The in memory of Bernd Eichinger founded by his wife and daughter “No Fear” award for a brave producer went to Sebastian Cordes for its Jakarta-film “Backpack”. The first time as part of the First Steps awarded Michael Ballhaus Prize for Best Cinematography received Hönemann Julia, also from the Film Academy Ludwigsburg, for the prostitute drama “Porn Punk Poetry”.

When entertaining, moderated by actor Edin Hasanovic event there was a standing ovation for the legendary cinematographer Ballhaus, who advised the film-young: “Not only do but keep going!” Was also honored with applause the senior film festival director in the world: Heinz bath wit, the head of the Hof International Film Festival for 48 years, received the top prize of 15 First Steps Awards.
