The Simpsons: Sisyphus in Springfield – Times Online

25 years ago was the first episode of “The Simpsons”. The series is especially so successful because they graze on the tragedy of man in late capitalism.

in a series the Simpsons cross out all those states in which they no longer have let look. There no left

The family belongs to the pragmatic Housewife margin with the greatest of blue beehive hairdos that proves again and again that they would be capable of much greater things (tough policewoman, television star, painter, Eventgastronomin), but voluntarily returns to the bosom of the family, because that’s just her true destiny, Being a housewife and mother. Her husband Homer is a pet as well as a great storyteller and, in contrast to margin not the slightest talent, but is primarily concerned Duff Beer, television and junk food. But its a loser is always caught by his family and a community in which the a loser is accepted as normal. Now and then a ludicrous idea to make money in the world is driving him out, which leads consistently in disaster.

This dialectic of people who may or may not want, and others who want but can not, is continuing, the Son, Bart Simpson, is not just a typical tomboy, but the already completed American cynic and egomaniac who rugged individualist , which comes all the way to the Father, but by having up some more intelligence and criminal activity. The daughter Lisa is the do-gooder who is committed to the environment, social justice or artistic expression (as gifted saxophone player), but that does not come far in a community of egomaniac cynics and self-righteous bigots. You must learn that intelligence and sensitivity in Springfield simply superfluous, if not are disturbing. The youngest, Maggie seems to have decided to abandon the language (if certain words such as Daddy or Sequel get over her lips, that’s a joke, which once again sinks into silence). Occasionally, the bewildered grandfather and the two permanent smoky, spiteful sisters Marge wil l be added to exacerbate family conflicts.

The place Springfield is dominated by Mr. Burns, the owner of the nuclear power plant, which is the security not nearly as accurate as does his revenue: He is a descendant of Charles Dickens’ Scrooge. Together with his slimy and unfortunate assistant Smithers takes Mr. Burns sometimes out of pure malice and crusades against his fellow man. Incompetent, corrupt police, a bigoted neighbor with his two choir praying boy, an Indian supermarket owner, the dubious goods sold, a dingy bar called Moe’s, the greedy, evil clown Crusty, just as incompetent as narrow-minded teachers, a dauerbekiffter school bus drivers … Springfields residents hold together when it comes to preserving the relationships to external forces, otherwise they hit each other incessantly by forces over the ear. The Company of Springfield works because you can rely on the nasty, stupid and neurotic characteristics of their members.
