Coldplay: When heavyweight started, ended up as a lightweight – B.Z. Berlin

on Wednesday evening the Brit-pop heroes Coldplay played at the “Head full of Dreams” tour in almost full Olympic Stadium – with a lot of confetti and little heroism.

In fact! The idea is immediately there: 23 degrees, evening sun in the Olympic stadium, blue sky. Perfect conditions: Champions League atmosphere is in the air. And yes: The four guys of Coldplay are yes (after sales: 80 million CD’s, MP’s, Downloads) absolute heavyweights. Highest combat class – the stock market is not without: on average 100 euros per card due. Makes a brisk penny. You have to give something back. Think Chris Martin (39), the colleague Guy Berryman (bass), Jonny Buckland (guitar) and Will Champion (drums) thinking.

And they pump on itself – four. In the huge oval. That is nearly full with 70,000 spectators. Families are traveling. Little girl jumping next to Papa on the folding chairs, or they see nix.

What is missing, that is soul and passion

But the question is: What do they see? A Chris Martin, who by diving under a shower of confetti to the first song “A Head full of Dreams”, behind him hiss missiles in not even darkened sky. Is that the brittle, always the same UEFA Champions League Eröffunungsgala? Or want to make the London boys, in 1996 formed up, facing us here, whether you totally serious about this beacon of past Art? Yes, of course: All that is perfectly matched.

Since no flying rocket before the next cycle of “The Scientist” – which, after all, a really good song. But what is missing, that is soul and passion. It is not enough just when Chris Martin runs in bobbing Aufgalopp with Germany flag in the back pocket on the stage bar (the only dangerously close ends at the Dixie toilets inside).

All this in rainbow colors. So drop the confetti sequins down on the thousands. But otherwise? Is this whole Zinober really necessary? If then even the best songs – “Clocks” and “Fix You” – the bracelets the audience – everyone is allowed one remotely on your wrist – the lights, then metal tuning is really “Club Med” achieved

No heroism of Brit-pop heroes

Unfortunately, then wins the knowledge space that these media and digital backdrop racketeering precisely is: a mask in front of which lose the lords. No confidence in their own abilities nowhere. No courage to let things take their course. For times red light here, since blue light on the watch of thousands. A bit dystopian all the (prescribed joy and good humor as in Dave Egger’s “Circle”). Because they have not IN the hand, but only AT hand. The audience. Disconcerting.

Well, who cares it. All are happy. Most probably even Chris Martin very even, which one can not reproach: he has – finally, finally – his anguish over the separation of the Upper West Side Soufragette Gwyneth Paltrow – survived and is now entitled to limitless colorful bounce, Rainbow life indulge. After all – U2′re here always far forward – is also shown politically with the fingers – with the small but.

Nice touches, sincere

A Turkish flag is draped on the piano keyboard, Chris Martin would be an Englishman but to be so warmly welcomed by the Germans. Nice touches, sincere. Unfortunately, all that evaporates, like the missiles fired carelessly behind the stadium, but to drive out all evil spirits. No: Not even for a sinking into what should be Pop, this evening is sufficient.

A Abschmelzbecken for crises and horror of messages. These two lessons are just no charade as she could rub our Prince under his nose. And unfortunately then also the “Heroes” by David Bowie agreed Chris Martin then to yet. In black and white submerged. Suddenly. He that stage. But then ebbed this beautiful relief of experienced by many and lived through concrete-stone-time in his hands as one of confetti sequins which is whirled by the wind tired and sluggish falls back to the ground. Sad but then a little all this. Although Champions League atmosphere was displayed last night. Tonight. Many happy returns ….
