John Berry, a founding member of the Beastie Boys, has died at the age of 52 years. This was confirmed by his father to the US magazine “Rolling Stone”. He had suffered from dementia and had died in a hospice in Massachusetts, the magazine reported.
Berry the US band had founded in 1981 with Mike Diamond, Adam Yauch and Kate Schellbach in New York. The name of the band goes back to one of his ideas.Following the publication of the first plate “Polly Wog Stew” the guitarist left the group in 1982 and was replaced by Adam Horovitz. The Beastie Boys celebrated afterwards with songs like “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party!)” And “sabotage” successes. They are considered one of the earliest and most successful hip hop bands. Since the death of Adam Yauch in 2012 the band was inactive, two years after they broke up in 2014.
John Berry was after leaving the Beastie Boys member of several other bands, among others Even Worse, Big Fat Love, Highway Stars and Bourbon Deluxe.
