Venice (dpa) – The Golden Lion of the 72nd International Venice Film Festival goes to Venezuela. “Desde allá” the director Lorenzo Vigas from Venezuela won on Saturday night for the coveted trophy.
The remarkable and complex drama is Vigas’ debut and tells the story of an emotionally and sexually charged relationship between a boy and an older man. The English title is “From Afar”. It is the first time that the Golden Lion goes to South America.
The strength of Director Lorenzo Vigas have the jury moved and surprised, said jury member Diane Kruger after the award ceremony. The drama will tell a “wonderful human history,” said the German actress (“Inglourious Basterds”).
The Grand Jury Prize went to the animated film “Anomalisa” of Americans Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson. The film about a lonely man and his search for happiness was shot with dolls similar figures. Two awards were for the French comedy “L’Hermine”. Director Christian Vincent won for best screenplay, best actor Fabrice Luchini. In the competition 21 Contributions to the prices had competed. President of the nine-member jury was the Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón (“Gravity”). The Film Festival of Venice is the oldest in the world.
