Debut film from Venezuela wins the “Golden Lion” – Berliner Morgenpost

The debut film “Desde allá” the director Lorenzo Vigas from Venezuela won the Golden Lion at the 72nd International Venice Film Festival.

It is the first time that the prize goes to Venezuela. The intense drama with the English title “From Afar” tells the story of the complex relationship between a boy and an older man. The strength of Bildprache directed by Lorenzo Vigas have the jury moved and surprised, said Diane Kruger (39), German actress and jury member, after the award ceremony.

As best director, the jury awarded the Argentines Pablo Trapero with his film “El Clan” from. Two prizes were for the French contribution “L’Hermine”: director Christian Vincent won for best screenplay, best actor Fabrice Luchini. Best actress Valeria Golino the Italian was honored for her performance in the mafia drama “Per amor vostro”.
