The opening film of the 67th. Berlinale: It’s Etienne Comars directorial debut, “Django” will also participate in the international competition. The Film tells the life story of the famous guitarist and composer Jean “Django” Reinhardt, one of the founders of European Jazz.
Reinhardt was born in 1910 in Belgium, but lived most of the time in France. As a Sinti and he and his family were persecuted by the Nazis and bullies, 1943, he continued to escape from the German-occupied Paris – an Episode on which the movie is supposed to focus.
“Django Reinhardt was one of the most colorful pioneers of the European Jazz and is the founder of Gypsy Swing. ‘Django’ points to pack at the end of a Chapter of his eventful life, and is a poignant story of Survival,” says Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick.
