In Hollywood is the husband the elderly diva Zsa Zsa Gabor as “Prince” known. In Germany Frederic von Anhalt, makes often for scandal-headlines. Who is “Prince Hollywood” really? A documentary goes behind the scenes

Los Angeles (dpa) – He appears happy. With gold chain on the wrist and red cap rolls of Prince in one of his luxury cars by Beverly Hills, palm trees and expensive villas over. Or in a tuxedo on the red carpet at the Golden Globes, in the hunt for snapshots with stars such as Will Smith, Harrison Ford and Sylvester Stallone.

So you see Frederic von Anhalt rare: thoughtfully on the terrace of his villa in upscale Bel Air, sorrowfully at the bedside of his 99 years old wife Zsa Zsa Gabor, working in the garden, while distributing food to the homeless in a poor neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The documentary “Prince Hollywood – Frederic von Anhalt” (August 17, 22:45, in the First) goes far beyond the scandal appearances and negative headlines of the “prince” with the obtained by adoption peerage addition. With its 82-minute film they wanted to find out what is hidden on a person behind the 73-year-old, told director Nicola Graef. What drives someone to way of making a media figure?

Many have the nose wrinkled about to make a film about him, says Graef. More than a year she accompanies him with the camera by Hollywood. At awards ceremonies, parties, encounters with paparazzi, to the bedside of Zsa Zsa Gabor. For more than ten years, he maintains his wife, night after night, only during the day, he has help.

“Only until then”, has of Anhalt to the camera crew to keep their distance. No photographs of the front. Only a good minute the frail Diva is found in the film. In the bedroom makes a huge TV, before bed a painting of the former “Miss Hungary”. “Sweetheart, hey baby,” the prince turns to his wife. For Graef this is one of the surprising moments with devotion and responsibility worries of Anhalt them.

But surprised also his honesty. The question “Were you in love with your wife?” He answered in the negative. Love should grow over time, no it was not a love wedding, in August 1986, when he was her eighth husband. But Gabor have put him the world at your feet. “I did it all the way up.” The Prince raves about his encounters with celebrities and presidents, of luxury and celebrity. He, the boy from the village, with no money and education, has fulfilled his Hollywood dream and showed everyone.

Graef can tell a brother and a school friend in Germany. Today Frederic von Anhalt grows as one of five children in Wallhausen in Hunsrück under a strict father. He always wanted high up, and all would have laughed at him, says the brother.

From his parents he had only got one better, but never get love, complains of Anhalt. Was he lonely, Graef asks the prince. He wards off, he was totally happy, stressed the 73-year-old. But the director wrestles him from confessions. He opens, also tells of his fears.

He had the desire to “just get out let the air, to speak of the soul,” says von Anhalt the German Press Agency. The Germans had a very different picture of him, that he might bring a luxury dissolute life and only go to the beach and at parties. “But I’m working really hard here”.

Purposefully he has fulfilled his Hollywood dream. When Title dealer Consul Hans Hermann Weyer in Munich, he obtains the noble name. As Frederic von Anhalt he trumps in Hollywood, gets to know in 1982 at a party Zsa Zsa. In no time they are a couple who masterfully marketed in the spotlight. A policeman slap brings Diva briefly behind bars, her prince kill the story in the press from lucrative.

Graef elicits the von Anhalt anecdotes and experiences with him surprises. About that the German in Hollywood actually as “Prince” has a name and is addressed by celebrities. At their first meeting at a restaurant on Rodeo Drive, the actor Kevin Bacon and Andie MacDowell had fed to the neighboring tables. “Then Elton John comes with his entourage to our table and chatted with the prince,” says the director.

The documentation amused touched, confirms stereotypes and does away with the other on. Graef it comes to his own words on it to see more differentiated with less prejudice and more openness a man. “But the people ever want to see another side of me?”, The Hollywood-Prince asks. The documentary tracks he finds any event aptly. “As Zsa Zsas man I’m the prince here. I love Hollywood about everything. This is the biggest stage in the world, where everyone is an actor “.
