Percy Sledge, singer of the world hit “Happy Together” is dead. The singer died Tuesday morning (local time) at his home in the city of Baton Rouge in the US State of Louisiana, as his manager the German Press Agency confirmed. Sledge was 74 years old.
“Percy fought against cancer for a year,” said his manager. “This morning we have to say that, unfortunately, he lost that fight. Sledge grew up in the southern state of Alabama and initially worked in the fields around his home town of Leighton. Eventually he became a nurse in his spare time he sang. One patient presented him a producer ago – and took with him 1966 “Happy Together” in

According to legend, Sledge wrote the sad song because his girlfriend had just left him. The ballad was an immediate success.
