The “Guardian” sold for the first time in its nearly two hundred year history, a chief editor. The Executive Board of Scott Foundation, the owner of the left-liberal daily newspaper, Katherine Viner has determined on Friday after a seven-hour meeting as successor by Alan Rusbridger. The outgoing chief editor takes over after twenty years as editor in chief line of Lady Margaret Hall, one of the colleges of Oxford University. Rusbridger will also replace Dame Liz Forgan as chairman of Scott Foundation.
The Oxford studied Katherine Viner, deputy chief editor since 2008, is one of the editors of the “Guardian” of the past eighteen years. During this time she has gone through various ministries, the magazine about the Australian office to the New York office. There they played a crucial role in the publication of the revelations of the whistleblower Edward Snowden. In the internal coordination of the succession Rusbridgers which was not binding, however, Katherine Viner received the highest vote with 53 percent of the vote. She was one of 26 applicants.
Katherine Viner, born in 1971, is the twelfth holder of the post editor in chief of the “Guardian”. In this role, she oversees the “Observer”, which belongs to the Guardian Media Group Sunday newspaper. Although not the first, but currently the only woman to head a respected British newspaper.
