Film about James Dean: Criticism & trailer to Anton Corbijn’s “Life” – THE WORLD

You silly so around in her room. Jimmy and Pier. And it smells determined yet for sex there. And after cigarettes have been smoked, of course, in the fifties in bed. Ever one has a lot more smoke then. Jimmy throws himself on the pier. Both, however, are tightened again. You rolling on the sofa. And then Dennis is just next to it in a dark suit.

How a stuffed bear. Jimmy says to Pier: “Marry me!” And then Dennis: “You can be our wedding photographer yes.” And Dennis: “That’s exactly what I’m dreaming.” Which is not true. For the young photographer Dennis Stock (played by Robert Pattinson, yes exactly, the vampire Actor) dreams of James Dean, whom his friends but Jimmy called and played by Dane DeHaan to take pictures of the “Life” magazine.

The director Anton Corbijn (actually indeed Photographer) tries to tell a great story in his film over rough and Dean. The story of the beginning of two loved ones. The photographer of the great stock photography. A love that was greater than that to become his own wife and his son, both of whom he neglected miserably, in the hope that the most important photographer of America. And the great love America to James Dean, which at that time still needs to occur.

Is Robert Pattinson ever actor?

Both are actually woven very close together. Stock James Dean meets more or less randomly. And he sees something in him that he could not describe in detail. So he goes straight to the office of John Morris, the Executive Editor of the great Magnum photo agency. “Why do you want a picture of him?” Asks Morris. And Stock responds: “There’s something Clumsy, I want to capture.” “Be patient,” replied Morris.

But the photographer is impatient. He seems to be developing a veritable mania for this young rascal Dean, who prefers säuft much, smokes, mumbles and occasionally a bit of shagging, when he is not can clap out of boredom balls to the wall, instead of working on his career. Stock ultimately lurks him so long until Dean in the end can take pictures.

The scene image is wonderful. The mint-colored coffee mug in the office, the underwear of Deans conquest that harmonizes with the sounds of linen. And the smoky-infamous Jazz Bar, where they throw pills and are zweisam in the toilets. The same goes for costumes and makeup. Ben Kingsley as repulsive cigar uncle and film magnate who cut Jack Warner as from the face. Even agree the rotschwülstigen Ties.

What is wrong less , is the acting performance of Pattinson. Even Til Schweiger mime acts in relation to multi-faceted as a prism through which you look at LSD. Although this is not new, but sad. After all, even Pattinson’s acting has a climax. When his character Dennis Stock bleary-eyed and visited with several liters of residual alcohol in the body his wife and child, he sits in a moment before his son, holding his stomach to throw up in the next. It may sound macabre, certainly a bit disgusting, but as Robert Pattinson plays the puking on his child photographers, as well as he has never been.

Dane DeHaan on the other hand does not need humors to be convincing. He plays Deans monosyllabic reluctance to come to terms with a middle-class life, so believable that you look on the one hand feels like your own grandmother (“No manners, this youth!”) When you witness how he in Zugrestaurant the steak with hand eating, but at the same time the pose of rebellion admired -. and think about it, perhaps to make the sometimes in the restaurant

“Life” conjures in nearly two hours those nostalgic fantasy that the reason for this is that even today we find America so great. As the neon lights are in Times Square, there are the taxis that do not stop. And this feeling is in the air that a leather jacket, a great and a bit of rebellion, although it is actually good in the heart, the big thing is. What “Life” also want to show the power of good photography and the feel good photographer who was still able to make stars.

It would also be strange if someone like Corbijn, the considerably with its work for Depeche Mode, U2, Tom Waits and Joy Division in the staging was involved from pop stars and their success, would not believe in this romantic notion. But actually swings in “Life” is not much more than with a wave of Sunset Feeling from a time to which hardly anyone can remember more. As infusion of an alleged feeling of life that seems to suck.

And so is Corbijn’s declaration of love for photography and their motives really her dead song. Sure, they still exist, the great photographer. We are not without reason in amazement, disbelief and sometimes love, given the impact of the images of Juergen Teller, Wolfgang Tillmans or Ellen von Unwerth. On the other hand are the times in which have taken photos Stars, irrevocably past.

Stars – or those who want to be there – are now responsible for their own production. Miley Cyrus is no longer pulls in the “Playboy” from, but only for their smartphone. Filter over it, funny smileys on the nipple, finished.

photographer should not make films

Which does not mean that images are less powerful. We will never forget the cover of “Time Magazine”, showing the young woman who was mutilated by their families in Afghanistan. And people who have ever seen the picture of themselves even in death embracing workers of a collapsed factory in Bangladesh will hopefully never go back to the textile discounter.

What remains is a film about the desire of two people to live their dreams. What the film also shows: No matter how big and bright it shines in the firmament before burns – no one is born in Times Square or on Broadway. It always begins in a small town on the Nowhere. The best photos Stock succeed on the farm of Dean’s family in Indiana. There are cows with brown coat and without horns. And Dean is sitting there, with a drum. And one speaks a grace.

Probably it is also important, but that does not even notice it. Probably should photographers simply do not make movies about photographers.
