Krautrock pioneers Dieter Moebius died with 71 years – Berliner Morgenpost

Hardly a music genre had under the proverbial prophet-in-own -Land syndrome to suffer more than the so-called Krautrock. In Germany suffered difficulties, the sound pioneers from the 60s and 70s found greater recognition abroad. One of the main protagonists of Krautrock was Dieter Moebius, who explored with bands like Cluster and Harmonia bold, new ways of electronic sound education. Now Moebius died at the age of 71 years.

Born in the Swiss St. Gallen, it was the art student Moebius driven through Belgium into West Berlin in the late 60s. Here he met like-minded sound tinkerer, founded together with Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Conrad Schnitzler formation Kluster, engaged in free improvisation in concerts and on records like “knocking” (1970) or “Two-Egg” (1971) new forms of Sound production devoted. They were also one of the pioneers of the so influential as ephemeral Berlin hippie clubs “Zodiak” Hallesches Ufer in Kreuzberg, which is considered as the nucleus of the Berlin electronic scene.

After the departure of Konrad Schnitzler made Moebius and Roedelius under the name Cluster as a duo on. And when they had long since turned their backs on Berlin and settled in a village in the Weserbergland. Later, they formed together with guitarist Michael Rother, the group Harmonia. They released two albums “Musik von Harmonia” and “Deluxe”. British experimental musician Brian Eno called Harmonia once as the “most important rock band in the world”. But there was only a few years and was very successful commercially. Eno had previously cooperated successfully with the cluster, which is reflected in the albums “Cluster & amp; Eno”. Reflected (1977) and “After The Heat” (1978)

Since the 90er- years experienced Cluster and Harmonia also a renaissance in England and Japan. Moebius’ Harmonia partner Michael Rother wrote late Monday on Facebook: “Our friend, neighbor and colleague this morning died . We will all miss him very much. Our thoughts are with his wife Irene. ” And Hans-Joachim Roedelius wrote, also on Facbook: “My best friend and colleague since 1969 when Kluster, Cluster and Harmonia died this morning.”
