The Leipzig book Fair 2016 has set a new record.. As the organizers announced on Sunday, 260 000 visitors to the exhibition grounds and the accompanying reading festival were “Leipzig Reads” counted.

2250 exhibitors (previous year 2263). from 42 countries were presented in Leipzig for four days their innovations around the book. Main topic of the second largest after Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany was the movement of refugees and their challenges for European society. The Leipzig Book Fair Prize in the Fiction went to Guntram Vesper ( “Frohburg”).
But at the fairgrounds 195 000 visitors were counted. “Leipzig Reads”, which celebrated its 25th anniversary this year, was held at 410 reading places throughout the city.
A driver of the spring show is more manga Comic-Con, a show for Comic Fans within the book Fair. There, the organizers counted 96 000 visitors (previous year: 93,000). Thousands of visitors flocked flashy costumes through the halls and shaped the look of the book fair. For fair boss Zille growing manga and comic area is an indispensable way to bring young people to the reading and to the book.
The next Leipzig Book Fair will be held from 23 to 26 March 2017. Then Lithuania will present a host country in Leipzig.
