After a wave of criticism of the posting of Xavier Naidoo for Euro Vision Song Contest (ESC) of the NDR has his nomination withdrawn. Naidoo will not sing in the coming year in Stockholm for Germany, the radio station said on Saturday.

“Xavier Naidoo is an outstanding singer who neither in my opinion Racist is still homophobic, “said Thomas Schreiber, ARD entertainment coordinator and Head of Research Department at NDR. “It was clear that he polarized, but the brunt of the reactions surprised us. We have misjudged.”

The Euro Vision Song Contest was a happy event, in which music and international understanding should be the focus. “This character must be preserved. The ongoing discussions could the ESC serious harm. For this reason, Xavier Naidoo will not start for Germany.”

Against Grand Prix participation of the controversial singer fierce resistance had moved. On the Internet several petitions were running against the ARD plans to let Naidoo unrivaled compete for the ESC.

The 44-year-old Naidoo’s 20 years of success in the music business and was several times at the top of the German charts. With his lyrics and political statements he solved but always controversy. The ARD had declared on Thursday, Naidoo was an exceptional artist and was therefore nominated directly.
