The Australian writer Richard Flanagan has been awarded this year’s Man Booker Prize for literature in English. The 53-year-old received the prestigious award on Tuesday for his book “The Narrow Road to the Deep North”, which is inspired by the experiences of his father as a prisoner of war during World War II. Flanagan’s book was a “great novel” about love and war, the two great themes of literature, professor AC Grayling said at the awards ceremony in London.
