“Allied – Familiar Strangers” in the cinema: goodbye in Casablanca – RP ONLINE

Düsseldorf, Germany. Marion Cotillard and Brad Pitt cast in the wonderfully old-fashioned Drama “Allied” as revenants of Bergman and Bogart. An impressive and exciting piece of cinema. By Martin Schickert

Robert Zemeckis is an old Hollywood-rabbit, long-time associate of Steven Spielberg, and he has brought as this often challenging stories successfully into the lucrative Popcorn Format. In the 80s, his Science Fiction trilogy “Back to the future” cult status, and with the Oscar-winning “Forrest Gump” (1994), he wrote in the annals of film history.

Zemeckis’ works were always technically up-to-time. The possibilities of digital image production he is in such films as “polar Express” and “Beowulf” from enthusiast explored, but in the overall artistic result is not very convincing. Only with “The Walk” (2015) he brought pixel craft and emotional depth in the line.

In his new Film, “Allied” he uses modern CGI technology, to create a very old-fashioned movie on the big screen. Hollywood classics like “Casablanca” (1942), or Hitchcock’s “Notorious” (1946) is used here as a benchmark, and like in the movies this year also calls for “Allied” is a good measure of star power to bring the necessary Shine to the drama.

cold-bloodedness, it is two

With Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard Zemeckis has put together is a lack of a ideal pair of idols like Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman comes quite close. Pitt plays a canadian spy and assassin, Max Vatan, the lands in the order of the British Special Operations Executive (SOE) in 1942, with the parachute in the desert of Morocco.

In Casablanca, he is supposed to liquidate the Resistance agent Marianne Beausejour (Cotillard) to the German Ambassador (August Diehl). Marianne has worked in the Vichy-Nazi High Society of the city and welcomed at a Party the unknown “husband” from Paris with convincing familiarity.

When Max recognizes one of the Nazi officer who interrogated him, the man strangled with a piece of bread in the throat at the bottom of the cell phone before the connection can be made to Berlin. Marianne consider all of the Details for the cover as a happy married Couple under constant surveillance is necessary. “I think the feelings are real. That is why it works so well,” she says. Soon, the played emotions feel very real.

the car pulls As a digital sand storm, the two in the car, your emotions run free, while the camera is driven by the Wind circling the wagons around. Here, Zemeckis’ methodology clearly emerges that exploits the possibilities of a digitally controlled image design full, in order to increase the emotional Output dramatically. It

After successful execution of the murderous job, Max, Marianne, even in the escape application, car a marriage. In London, he works as an officer for his former employer, while it depends on the Agentenjob to the nail and find happiness as the wife and mother of their daughter seems to be. But then Max of a day in the deep is called, deep the secret service, basement: His wife is suspected to work for the Germans. Max is to find out if that’s true – and, if necessary, as required by the regulations in such cases, single-handedly liquidate.

Classic and modern elements interlock

The screenplay by Steven Knight, who has worked with films such as “No Turning Back” or “Eastern Promises” Suspense-style, impresses here, by a twist of the rich, but by no means überkonstruierten Plot. Marital happiness and professional mistrust can be love in the Agent equally credible, the scene is set and until the end, as the Option is kept open.

With its nostalgic staging of the way bows Zemeckis in front of the Hollywood dramas of the 40s and uses the possibilities of digital image production, there is always expressive, visual effects. Classic and modern elements, in here seamlessly into each other and connect – of course also thanks to the appeal of its main cast – a very impressive and exciting piece of cinema.
