The ZDF presenter Jana Thiel has died at the age of 44 years. She succumbed in on Monday night after a short severe illness, such as the station announced in Mainz.

“We mourn a wonderful colleague who a us with her courage forever will be a role model, “said ZDF sports director Dieter Gruschwitz.

Jana Thiel worked for ZDF for 16 years, first as a sports presenter in” ZDF morning Magazine “in Berlin, since 2004 in the sports department in Mainz. They reported especially about competitions in alpine winter sports and also hosted the sports section in the news program “Today”. First “Bild.de” and “Express.de” had reported about the death of the host.

The native Spreewälderin began her career in radio at Antenne Brandenburg in Potsdam. In 1994 she moved to television in the sports department of the East German Radio Brandenburg (today RBB). From 1999 to 2002, she hosted the sports news with DW-TV, the television station Deutsche Welle.
