DLRG: many swimming deaths – “refugees overestimate themselves” – THE WORLD

In the first eight months of this year 425 people have already drowned in Germany – 46 people more than at the same time last year. The figures collected at the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) shows that disaster messages can be evaluated in the media

particularly striking. 56 bathing dead – more than 13 percent – are refugees. Already last year, the DLRG had sounded the alarm, because in 2015 a total of 25 refugees died in bathing accidents. So now there are more than twice as many. In just eight months.

“Our fears have” DLRG spokesman Martin Holzhause says the “world”. “Most of the refugees came so until the end of 2015. Therefore, in 2016 the numbers corresponding alarming.” The volunteer lifesavers go anyway out of an even higher number of unreported cases. Not every accident finds its way into the media.

DLRG warned against fatal bathing Summer

Back in June had DLRG impressively warned of a deadly summer bathing. “We expect a significant increase in the numbers,” Holzhause said at the time. Although the summer had not even started properly, the volunteer association mid June 20 dead refugees complained already nationwide. On the one had paid particular attention before the swimming season. DLRG internally apply refugees long as “special risk”.

dangers for bathers were translated into 25 languages, so that they really can read each. For illiterate pictograms were developed. The notes can be downloaded from the DLRG site; partly they are also sent directly to communities and refugee shelters. Whether and to what extent these efforts have helped is unclear. The DRLG says he has fulfilled his part of the prevention. At the end of the communities were most train.

Striking is the increase of fatal accidents in swimming pools. Compared to the same period last year the number increased by seven to 17. Five of them are refugees. Now seems therefore to be true, what are Germany bathrooms boss Bertold Schmitt recently warned.

“Since megalithic come from men”

” the lifeguard and swimming instructor in the bathrooms were never as often as in the past few months to help in the water the guests. It was not all just from drowning, but they needed help to get to the edge of the pool “was Schmitt’s alarming inventory.

” Since megalithic come from men, like telling an employee, and go to the pool edge. you can see the pelvic floor and think they could it be, and jump in. Two seconds later jump my staff afterwards. This is a very prominent issue because the refugees completely overestimate “Schmitt.

More preschoolers died

More than three quarters of the bath dead are male way. The reason for the DLRG sees overconfidence, carelessness and often alcohol consumption.

first time in years more preschoolers came again killed. In this age group 15 boys and girls were killed, six more than last year. For primary school children, the number of victims rose by four to twelve. In the group of eleven- to 14-year-old drowned nine teenagers more than in the same period. DLRG-President Hans-Hubert Hatje criticized: “These figures are the result of bathrooms closures and associated precipitation of swimming lessons at schools.”
