The controversial German rock band Frei.Wild ( “opposition”) won the Echo in the category Rock / Alternative National. The band was in 2013 still deleted the echo of the nomination list after other groups such as motor club had threatened to boycott. Frei.Wild declared at the awards ceremony, they wanted to present the echo in the public as a symbol of resistance to exclusion
