And he was the incorruptible biographer and one of the sharpest critics of his country in times of democracy: Rafael Chirbes, famous for its meandering style of speech, wrote about awakening and adaptation, rebellion and stagnation as in “old friends”, most recently through the distortions of capitalism and neoliberalism.
