D IE Russian ballet legend Maya Plisetskaya was one of the most outstanding dancers of the past 100 years. On May 2, the famous Russian ballerina died unexpectedly. She was 89 years old. Plisetskaya was regarded as one of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century and has received numerous awards. The Bolshoi gave out her only another dancer called “prima ballerina assoluta”. Their last performance she gave in 1996 at the age of 71 years. With Plissezkajas death a ballet era comes to an end.
As the Moscow’s Bolshoi Theater announced on Saturday, she died of a heart attack in Munich. Bolshoi director Vladimir urine told the Russian news agency Tass, he had been informed of Plissezkajas husband Rodion Shchedrin Composer about his wife’s death. “The doctors have tried everything, but they could not do anything for them.”
The Dying Swan was Plissezkajas starring role. Like hardly any other ballerina she coined this game. On this legendary recording she is 50 years old.
In 1967, the Cuban choreographer Alberto Alonso created for the ballet “Carmen”. The choreographer Maurice Béjart RENCH Star devoted her ballet “Ave Maya”, which she performed in 2005 at a gala on her 80th birthday in the Kremlin. Even in the classic roles of Odette Schwanenekönigin, Cinderella or Giselle, she amazed the audience. As a choreographer she staged, among other things, “Anna Karenina” by Tolstoy and “The Seagull” by Chekhov.
Born in Moscow on November 20, 1925 Plisetskaya came from a Russian-Jewish family. Her father a lot in 1938 terror under the Soviet dictator Josef Stalin victim. Only decades later, his death was confirmed. Her mother, an actress, was deported as a wife of a “people’s enemy” to Kazakhstan. Plisetskaya was raised by her aunt and uncle, a dancer and a ballet teacher. In 1943 she was admitted to the Bolshoi ensemble.
