The Berlin Academy of Arts has a new board. The film director, producer and screenwriter Jeanine Meerapfel (71) was elected on Saturday by the General Assembly as the new president and Kathrin Röggla (43) to the Vice-President. Follow Klaus Staeck (77), who presided since 2006 has held and was re-elected twice. This is the first time a woman at the head of which was founded in 1696 institution.
Meerapfel received in 1997 for her feature film “gusset on Bizyckel” the Hessian Film Award. Kathrin Röggla was mainly with her novel “We Do not Sleep” (2004) known.
At the general meeting on Saturday should also consider the other twelve items in leading the Senate to be filled. In the evening, a memorial service for the late writer Günter Grass was planned, who stood at the head of the Academy from 1983 to 1986.
