Måns Zelmerlöw has not deserved to win the Euro Vision Song Contest. Nevertheless, this year’s competition demonstrated that understanding and inclusion are possible.
Behind a fan Ann Sophie hid her face. Some seating areas could continue the Swede Måns Zelmerlöw his fortune unbelievable. These were the counterpoints in the finals of the Euro Vision Song Contest last night in Vienna. Frustrated followed the 24-year-old German the scoring in the Green Room, where the artists of all countries expected the finalists Siegerkür. And the longer the announcement of the points, the more clearly was: Germany could not be further from a victory and the points round for Sweden. As all the national results were presented, it was on the scoreboard still “Germany 0 Points”.
Those who vote for whom?
None of the other 39 countries in this year’s Euro Vision Song Contest even a single point had left for Black Smoke , the Soulpoptitel, the Ann Sophie had sung in the competition. Such a shame it had not existed in Germany since exactly 50 years at the Grand Prix. It Ann Sophie had – the decider Second, the only reason was allowed to drive the ESC because of high house televoting winner Andreas going even in the Live Show in early March in Hannover got cold feet – made in Vienna a good figure. Before the ESC final, international journalists from Black Smoke showed more convinced than many German fans.
In fact, the song ended up in some countries, at least at number 11 or 12, as in Hungary and Belgium. There are the ESC but no more points, only the top ten will receive what. “ Black Smok s is certainly not a song, the ESC is typical”, Ann Sophie tried a statement after the show. “Nevertheless, the performance was cool, and it was fun.” Also ARD entertainment coordinator Thomas Schreiber did not quite explain how it could come to this disappointment in the night. “The song and the performance were better than no points.” A fate that divided the German with The Makemake from Austria. The fact that a host country with zero points Last was this competition
No novelty had not yet seen, however, was the winning country. Sweden won the ESC for the sixth time. Whether it is the United Kingdom had replaced as the motherland of pop asked to 1.45 clock during the press conference winners a BBC journalist, the Swedish delegation, a good hour after Måns Zelmerlöw had won the Song Contest. Quick nod of the head of delegation Christer Björkman.
Here Zelmerlöws title Heroes was anything but innovative. In fan circles for weeks was close to Lovers on the Sun from David Guetta, a chart hit from last year, were discussed: the Johnny Cash-like beginning, the Popdance beat in Refrain. Certainly no plagiarism, but certainly with more substantial borrowings from Guetta’s hit. Even the moving stick figures, drawn with a projector from the stage ceiling on a black wall behind Zelmerlöw was copied in a project artist.
The audience did not care or did not know the originals. With more than 60 points ahead Zelmerlöw won the competition against the blonde Russian girl Polina Gagarina, although even sang the same implausible peace anthem that has been sending 2013 years slightly modified for the year for the song contest Russian state television. But Gagarinas powerful voice and stage presence was hardly anyone escape in Vienna. Long Sweden and Russia were in the vote head to head.
Still, the homosexual largely Euro Vision supporters in the fan block in front of the stage waving their rainbow flags all wild to – in spite of singing – express their protest against the homophobic policies of Russian President Putin. The boos were less strong than last year, as occurred the Tolmatschowa Sisters in Copenhagen.
