bearer of the Federal cross of merit

foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier paid tribute to the pitcher as “an outstanding actor and distinctive character of the head”. He had written “with his virtuoso art, a piece of German-German Film and television history”.

The actor, author and musician, Krug was born in 1937 in Duisburg, Germany, and came as a child in 1949 in the GDR. In 1977, he went to his Protest against the Expatriation of singer-songwriter Wolf Biermann in the West. In April 2013, in both the East and West successful artist was awarded the Federal cross of merit.

Krug was one of the most popular movie and television actor in the GDR and had signed in 1976, the protest resolution of numerous of the GDR-artists against the Expatriation of Wolf Biermann. One of his signature roles he had as a rebellious anarchist Baubrigadier in the film “trace of stones”. The 1965 Film was shot by Frank Beyer was in the GDR not long in the cinemas, and was then more than 20 years in the gift closet.

“Jack of all trades, the DEFA-films”

Recently, it had become silent to the successful actor. Krug had withdrawn unlike most of the members of the retirement from the acting business back, but was more than active musician. He was a multi-talent, not only a gnarled actor, but also a book author and a singer.

Krog had trained as a steel smelter. But he once said about himself that he came “as an actor on the world”. In the early years, he admired particularly the Hollywood Star-Cowboy Gary Cooper.

Krug, the four children, had much to tell. In the GDR he was the “Jack of all trades, the DEFA-films”, where he stood in the Babelsberg Studios since 1961 under the contract. Later, he was in the West, the lovable and sometimes rough “rough diamond, it came from over there”, as Newspapers called.

“the crime scene”-Commissioner in Hamburg

From 1969 to 1973, he was p in the GDR several times to the audience favorite chosen. Later, he found also in the Federal Republic of Germany – after some initial difficulties and Fears – the professional connection: Here he determined from 1984 to 2001, as brummiger like music, and regularly singing the “crime scene”-Commissioner Stoever in a Duo with Charles Brauer in Hamburg.

“Liebling Kreuzberg” he played the popular lawyer, who has a heart for the little people. In the ARD early evening programme of adventurous truck driver, who was in the world “On axis” was a pitcher for many years.

Health warnings as a stroke in 1997 in Berlin, from which he recovered, ironically, in a rehab clinic on the grounds of the former “Communist bigwigs settlement” Wandlitz, had pitcher not want to ignore it. It was silent in the past few years to him – to his musical excursions as a jazz artist and chanson singer (“It is a house in New Orleans”) on the page of the singer Uschi Brüning.

Sincere, honest and a difficult person

Roswitha Schreiner, the Krug TV daughter Sarah in “Liebling Kreuzberg” played, responded deeply affected. “I need to sort first, I’m extremely close. He was my Fernsehpap,” she told FOCUS Online. “He had a backbone. He stood up for his Beliefs. He was incorruptible and in a straight line. The have sensed the audience consciously or unconsciously. That’s why he was so popular.”

actor Michael Kausch, who starred in “Liebling Kreuzberg” the lawyer Giselmund Arnold, said the broadcaster SWRinfo to the death of pitcher: “It touches me more than I can Express it in the moment.” Appreciated that he had the sincerity and honesty of the pitcher – even if the actor was a difficult person. “He was quite impulsive and quick-tempered, and also very unfair to employees. What was he thinking, he has losgepoltert. But what I always appreciated was that he is at all hazards, not a tactic.”

Star in the East – and West-Germany

Berlin’s governing mayor Michael Müller (SPD) reacted with dismay to the news of the Krug’s death. “We owe this great actor many fun and stimulating hours,” Müller said. “In each role was pitcher unmistakably, he was a guy you couldn’t forget. His great power lies in the fact that he is in East, then West, and finally in the whole of Germany to be a Star.”

Prince singer Sebastian Krumbiegel said in SWRinfo, Krug was one of the few artists to have been, the have managed after a career in the GDR in the former West Germany the breakthrough. “He’s a cult figure in the East, is the a page. The other side is that he has managed in the West as one of the very few it, its quality, and to remain at the top.”
