Stefan Raab: “Schlag den Raab”, the latest edition – SPIEGEL ONLINE

Stefan Raab moans and grunts, he shoots from harpoons and stacks blocks in front of you. . For the spectator, the 55th edition as a normal Saturday night with TV entertainment from the Raab-cosmos

could feel “Schlag den Raab” from, but of course everything is different: The pictures of the entertainers who will be “TV total” after 16 years abmoderierte late-night format with tears at the side of his sidekicks Elton, only a few days old. The games now herald the next goodbye, this time it’s the final.

Almost six hours Raab struggling through the final episode of his ProSieben show, as everyone wanted the inevitable least somehow delay. For this purpose, they had changed the entire concept of mission: Instead of allowing a candidate to compete against the final boss Raab, each one volunteer was chosen from the audience for each of the 15 matches, which in the case of a victory could take at least 100,000 euros back home. The winners were still playing at the end by a further 900,000 euros.

Candidate Victoria had to try to catch with a net small paper-angel, Candidate John was shut in a duel against Raab from a rotating pedestal balls in the hopper throw (for “now is the question of who pisses first!” ), and Sebastian drove the 49-year-old afterwards on an ice surface. Raab chose nine of 15 games for themselves. “I could also say that I have all to win,” he says at the beginning of the broadcast. “But then we can spend the evening here cancel.”

When it is about life and death

His notorious ambition was from the outset what the Show mattered that ran for almost ten years. For hours he struggled with his opponents, as it will not go to entertainment television, but of life and death. He gave other nothing, any more than himself. He played for a mountain bike accident during the broadcast continues with a concussion. That he would now at the end address, the candidates less hard, it was not expected.

He assumes the role of a Unsympathen what should not bother him – quite the contrary, it is the logic on which the show is built. This Saturday evening, however, he had to share the part: the candidate Jörn, against whom he took in doses shooting. Jörn – Undercut, Rolled Up Pants, serious facial expression – made only from an odd structure of cans pyramid and felt after a hit by the downed cans visually impaired, he said. Finally he joined the canister itself annoyed out of sight.

The unequal beautiful moment of the past, “Schlag den Raab” issue gave Hendrik candidate who won a total of one million euros at the end. His last job was with a Klackerbecher to shoot a plastic ball in the air and then catch – what he achieved on the first attempt. Visibly shocked by the profit he sank to the ground, wiped his short by the face and brought, as the camera again abschwenkte from him, still incredulous “with clacking!” out.

Generation Change in German TV

Why it should be with all this come to an end, Raab has until now not really justified. Much has been written since the farewell announcement about his role in the German TV landscape, and indeed his departure heralds a generational change. The Cologne was with its numerous formats – “Stockcar Crash Challenge”, “Federal Vision Song Contest”, “Absolute majority” – as an innovator of German Television. The job now has another pause: Jan Böhmermann. The makes his “Neo Magazine Royale” less in linear TV program, but all the more on the net quite a stir. A development that was not Raab called.

And since it is almost symptomatic that the end of Raab’schen TV era includes a test image, a relic from a forgotten art-hours. It appears after the repeated ESC contender had stated at the very end to a slightly schmaltzy version of Whitney Houston’s “One Moment in Time”. In the middle he forgets supposedly the text, the transmission stops. “Please be patient, Stefan Raab is right back to them. At the moment, all television reception” is to hear from the off.

And then he actually appeared again on. With reindeer antlers, fur jacket and aviator sunglasses Raab stands with his show band, the Heavytones, back on stage and sings Chuck Berry’s “Run Rudolph Run” to rains goldglitzerndes confetti from the ceiling. The audience and the staff gather around him, many are still taken or clapped in the arm. “I hope you had a bit of fun,” says Raab, then he disappears behind the show setting. That’s it really.
