Literary Quartet: premature ejaculation. But unfortunately too short – THE WORLD

“One should never talk about how sex should be before sex” had Maxim Biller, who perhaps cleverest part of the revived from ZDF “Literary Quartet”, any Journalists dictated weeks ago in their microphones, not realizing that the same journalists would divulge uncontrollably before the broadcast of the revival, as it was.

The mission had been recorded two days before broadcast, the Berliner Ensemble. Even Volker Weidermann liked or had as a leader and host of the roundtable before the broadcast provide information on how it was. “Satisfied?” When asked, he answered the Germany Kultur: “Of course!” Whereupon the presenter joked: “. Sure, you have a man also say”

Weidermann had the four times four opinions at the end of the mission in tempered manner as football scores summarized. “Tagesspiegel”, “stock exchange sheet for the German book trade” and “FAZ” gave the critics’ votes more readily. “Herrlich senseless Spoilerismus that the detailed reviews are published to #literarischesquartett before the show,” complained Florian Kessler, lecturer in contemporary literature in Hanser Verlag, at Twitter.

A “premature ejaculation” à la Brecht

The intellectual godfather of the consignment, Marcel Reich-Ranicki, the to the “Literary Quartet” 1988-2001 with Hellmuth Karasek and Sigrid Löffler the brand made that it is to this day, would in turn determines speak of premature ejaculation . He always did like it when Bertolt Brecht was in the game -. As in this quartet, which was recorded at the old site of action Brecht

The old mission lived by dispute and the ruckus. That people are debating passionate about books, other people still seems to be interested as a cultural technique. The revival of the “Literary Quartet” was commented brisk during his appearance at Twitter. #literarischesquartett lay meantime No. 1 on the Trending Topics.

“Four critics, four books, no introductory films – and no agreement “. The concept, as Weidermann imagines, agrees. It just does not fit in 45 minutes. The entire mission acts rushed latent, In Search of Lost Time. “Not even enough time to argue whether there is a hell,” Clemens Setz stated at Twitter. As Christine Westermann and Maxim Biller had just in the wool.

Apodiktik, moderation and relativizations

Biller takes generally not mince the words: “The book was like torture in a state security prison,” he says of Trojanow “power and resistance”, the Juli Zeh as “important psychological profile” on the Bulgarian State Security had imagined. Weidermann it finds “a checkerboard pattern, no psychological profile. On 500 pages nothing moves.” And anyway: Bulgarian Stasi past interest him “freiweillig not”

Biller argues like apodictically.. He is the critic who sometimes decreed: “Trojanow is not a writer.” Weidermann one who moderates: “nonsense”

And Westermann one that constantly relativized: “But there are literary moments.” A fairly typical set of Westermann, who often gets lost in this first mission in trivialities: One is the wrong secretion aussondernde Rotznase in Chigozie Obiomas novel “The Dark River”. Then again they annoy 1800 hectoliters tea that Knausgard drinks to 800 pages “dreams”. Biller then (to Westermann): “.. Maybe you watch too much attention to detail you have not felt the existential”

The fronts change meanwhile constantly and form newly from book to book. When Peter Gardos (“Fever in the morning”) Maxim Biller and Juli Zeh ten agree that they find it too sweet and corny, while Volker Weidermann “stirred” shows.

<"prefix_1" h2 class => minutes more and it is more relaxed

As in the original living the new “Literary Quartet” from different temperament and taste of his debaters, where Weidermann relative in this first broadcast excited, not blessed with microphone problems and employs much more than senior moderation appeared (“Zack, we have to get to the next book”). One could make the whole relaxed by would unscrewing the consignment either more minutes (for example 60), or just fewer books (only 3 instead of 4?).

A manifestly fixed formula used Weidermann for his Moderation credits. No curtain and all questions unanswered, but: “Do it well – or as Reich-Ranicki always said at the end of a conversation: Chin up.”

In this sense, it will be interesting how the constellation in the next program from evolving. In the original quartet 27 years ago, the roles of the parent trios had formed rapidly. Marcel Reich-Ranicki let viewers know the same in the very first mission that Sigrid Löffler “in some – very wrongly – as a somewhat mischievous lady” applies. And Hellmuth Karasek he said: “Mr. Karasek, I will not stop you to admire me exactly what you want but..”
