The “Winter Hill Gang”
James Whitey Bulger controlled the city from a liquor store in from Waterfront: He woke up on the drugs and arms trade, business with usurious loans, gambling. The ascent to the head of the legendary Winter Hill Gang, a mafia-like gang predominantly Irish-American criminal, he made use of a friend’s childhood: John Connolly, the FBI agent. When he retired in 1994, Bulger landed on the “top ten most wanted list” of the US National Security Agency – second only to Osama bin Laden. The indictment accused him of 19 murders.
Hollywood now has filmed the life of gangster reality. Johnny Depp plays Bulger in the movie “Black Mass” amazingly real, Joel Edgerton the part of corrupt accomplices Connolly.
Two guys, two ways
The real gangsters grew up in the Irish slums of Boston. James Whitey Bulger and John Connolly wanted to escape poverty, but chose different paths – which later became a common destiny. Born in 1929 as a teenager Bulger learned the hardships of war band know, joined the Winter Hill Gang and robbed bank branches from. Because of its almost snow-white hair, the cops called him “Whitey”. The more serious John Connolly, eleven years younger, however, dreamed of a law degree and a career as an FBI agent. For the first time they met in a ice cream shop, Bulger donated the younger Connolly an ice cream.
In a raid Whitey Bulger was arrested in 1956 and landed on Alcatraz Island. His anger and his criminal energy was there perhaps only monitored correctly: The prison time he shortened with the participation of government LSD experiments in a secret CIA program. They gave him sleepless nights, hallucinations, nightmares: “I often wake of a cry and realize that I even cry,” he wrote in the private notes that were created behind bars and discovered later.
When he was released in 1965, he resembled a fighting dog, who had been armed. His goal: He wanted to head the Winter Hill Gang ascend. Now John Connolly came into play. The boy from the house next door was working with the FBI now. Both agreed a deal.
The Godfather and The Prince
Bulger supplied Connolly with insider knowledge of the Italian Mafia, and his intimate enemy Luigi “Baby Shanks” Manocchio – in return he enjoyed protection in its shops. Henceforth gave Bulger information about unwelcome competitors, which then brought Connolly behind bars. So the informant himself went on to boss the transition and created his own criminal empire.
Connolly enjoyed soon the reputation of a “super cop”; smashing the Mafia in the area figured it to him. In the office, he let himself smugly call “Prince”. Meanwhile Bulger rose godfather of Boston and was at the FBI, for Connolly, as V-Man made with clean vest, the one met for dinner and personable place.
Connolly also Boss John Morris succumbed Bulger charm. They met privately, exchanged gifts. Once Morris is said to have adopted by Bulger $ 7,000 in a silver champagne bucket a nice giveaway item. That worked: When doubts arose Bulger, Connolly and Morris stressed on grotesque way his contribution in breaking the Cosa Nostra and covered up his murder. In jail wandered others. Bulger murder went unpunished. About a dozen FBI people were privy to his dual role and played with.
Bulger himself was a compulsive control freak. He was charismatic, loved to manipulate people, women fell to his charm. Photos show him with tinted sunglasses and leather coat. Some saw him even as Robin Hood of Boston, the thought of the poor – despite its brutality: So a millionaire and a construction worker died accidentally in a hail of bullets. And Bulger strangled Debrah Davis with bare hands at their doorstep because they had found a mistress of one of his accomplices that Bulger was FBI informant. The documentary “The Making of a Monster” reconstructs the murder.
14.3 million in Lotto
The state police, however, did not spare Bulger. They bugged his office, a liquor store in the Old Colony Avenue. But the monitors heard no suspicious word – John Connolly Bulger had previously warned. So the cops learned only trivialities about spirits and liqueurs, while Connolly basked on the terrace of a $ 400 000-house, a diamond ring on her finger.
As an FBI agent Connolly finally retired, were the paradisiacal states for Bulger passé. The new generation wanted him no longer than V-man and was planning to take him up. But the conscientious Connolly gave him a last tip – and the childhood friend fled

In Apartment 303 a social construction they had hidden some 800,000 dollars in the wall and stockpiled an arsenal of about 300 weapons, including machine guns
Bulger life was now even filmed. Jack Nicholson played in 2006 in “The Departed” an inspired him Gangster – while Bulger was still undiscovered. The FBI issued a “Bulger Task Force” A, but the cat-and-mouse game with the former informants became increasingly embarrassed
Hot track:. The breast implants of partner
2008 also produced the helpless Federal Police a memorable confusion on German television. The ZDF broadcast “file number XY” shone for the FBI from a video, on the Bulger was seen with his girlfriend – supposedly. Prompt came forward a resolution retired couple who had recognized the Sicilian Taormina on vacation and had mistakenly come to the attention of the FBI. The ZDF had to apologize.
In the APB was to read that Bulger the atenolol need, “bibliophile” is to like staying in libraries and reading about military history and “True Crime”. They also knew that he loved animals. But to snatch it was only through an unusual NOTE: The breast implant numbers his partner Catherine who frequently visited beauty clinics to control.
