Ron Howard told in a visually stunning drama as the whaling epic originated
The stories of unequal duel Man versus Nature have a lasting influence also director Ron Howard. The constantly be felt in his work “In the heart of the sea”.
The film tells the historically traditional reports from the sinking of a whaling ship. The New England whalers was to sink on November 20, 1820 in the Pacific by a giant sperm whale. This incident became the basis for Herman Melville’s novel “Moby Dick”.
Howard, who convinced a director with classics like “A Beautiful Mind” or “Rush” is a traditional storyteller. He has the book “In The Heart Of The Sea” by Nathaniel Philbrick made and formed into a visually powerful drama full of action and emotion. The feeling you will never rid that Howard would much rather “Moby Dick” remade. They are the same images, but it is a different story. Here it is not Melville’s narrator Ishmael, who travels to New England of the 19th century and hires on Captain Ahab’s ship, but the author himself. Melville (Ben Whishaw) visited in 1850 on the island Nanutucket traumatized Thomas Nickerson (Brendan Gleeson). He was a 14-year-old cabin boy on the “Essex” one of the few survivors of the disaster.
Under Pein Nickerson told by Owen Chase (Chris Hemsworth), the job as a petty officer on the “Essex” is offered. However, he had been promised that he is employed in the next ride as captain. The post has now but the inexperienced George Pollard (Benjamin Walker) get, son of a rich family. The power struggle at sea seems inevitable. As the whale then attacking and the “Essex” decreases, starts for the crew, which can save in the three tenders, a several months of struggle for survival. At the end you see the hand Melville, as she writes the words “Call Me Ishmael” on paper. It is the first sentence of his novel “Moby Dick”.
